Pollen Season Will Be Serious in 2017: All This Rain Makes the Grass Grow

grass

Wow, we really need the rain this year, after four years of drought. But no good news for allergy sufferers. More rain means more pollen: more pollen means more allergies in the spring. To those of you with a long history of hayfever or spring allergy pollen problems you need to get ready now.

Some things you can do to prepare include:

  • Reducing exposure to other known allergens either environmental or foods. Symptoms of pollen allergy built on other allergens. So reducing exposure to house dust and foods that cause allergy problems will reduce the overall symptoms you have with grasses and trees.
  • Stock up on medicines that you know are effective. Anti-inflammatory nasal sprays such as Flonase and Nasonex are now across the counter. In addition you can get antihistamines, especially those that don’t cause drowsiness like Zyrtec, Claritin or Allegra.
  • If you’ve been on an immunotherapy program but have not completed consider restarting now. In addition, we now available to us under the tongue oral immunotherapy for grass and for house dust.

Getting prepared now for what might be one of the worst allergy seasons ever is a very good idea if you want to enjoy the spring.
